Light Up the Mood of Chinese New Year

Materials

• Lantern making package
  (from Art Friends. Includes 1 T-shaped lantern template made of corrugated board and 4 pieces of heat-proof paper)
• Cutting mat, pen knife and blades
• Pencil, ruler, eraser
• 4 pieces of fancy coloured paper
  (18cm x 13.5cm each)
• Double-sided tape, glue

Step 1
Draw a rectangle leaving 1.75cm (width) and 2cm (height) margins from the borders of the heat-proof papers.

Step 2
Within the borders, create the desired designs or characters on the heat-proof papers.

Step 3
Cut out the drawings.

Step 4
Once done with cutting, paste each heat-proof paper behind a piece of fancy coloured paper. These will be the panels for the windows of your lantern.

Step 5
Remove excess pieces from the template for the windows of the lantern.

Step 6
Paste the 4 panels over each window with double-sided tape (the side with coloured paper to face out).

Step 7
Fold lantern template according to folding lines. Secure all sides of lantern with double-sided tape.

Step 8
Place a tea light candle or aromatherapy candle inside the lantern (you may wish to glue or tape the candle to the bottom of lantern). When the candle is lit, the sihouette of your designs will show through the 4 panels.
